Lviv Polish and Ukrainian Heritage (1918–1945)
Lviv (today the Ukrainian city of Lviv) was one of the most important cultural and administrative centers of the Second Polish Republic. Before the Second World War, the city together with parts of what is now western Ukraine belonged to eastern Poland. In 1945, during the Yalta Conference, Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Joseph Stalin redrew the map of Europe, shifting the border between Poland and the USSR. Lviv was incorporated into Soviet Ukraine, and a large part of the Polish population was forced to leave their homes.
